Watercolours by Sandra Athina Vlachakis
A set of five postcards created for mothers who have lost their child during pregnancy, at birth, or shortly thereafter.
The five artworks were painted by Sandra Athina Vlachakis, who herself lost her daughter Sonja five days after birth. In the watercolours, she explores the body after loss. The mother's body, which has carried, given birth to, and made space for a child – and which still carries the love and the connection when the child is no longer here.
The motifs revolve around the body, motherhood, absence, and connection. About a body that can contain what was, what should have been, and what still is.
The cards can be used to send a message to a grieving mother, but they can also be for yourself. To hang on the wall, frame, or keep as a small physical representation of something that can be difficult to put into words.
The set contains five different postcards with original works by Sandra Athina Vlachakis.
